To some, a style comes naturally. One look at something they produced and their unwritten signature is as plain as day. Look at their gallery of art, and they all fuse together naturally, forming such a unified collection that it comes to no surprise how closely they're related. But for others, including myself, a style is something that must be searched for. We try many different things, in many different mediums, trying to find our own unwritten signature. And the second we feel we've found it, something pulls us in a new direction.
For me, personally, I feel like I'm split between two different styles. Two very
different styles. There's the traditionalist, going by my own name, painting for the sake of painting. This side of me paints innocent landscapes, and aspires to live off of the canvas and brush. His paintings are somewhat stylized to compensate for his novice ability; an ability he works to improve almost daily. He may even want to open a gallery one day, where he can show off his work, along with the work of other local artists. Maybe on the beach? Florida is certainly the spot to do it. This clean-cut personality has been revealing itself more and more as I've grown up. I just wonder if the motives stem from artistic curiosity, or financial stability.
The other style I've had is a bit more daring. He works mostly in the digital art world, portraying things that range from awesome to funny, and everything in between. He goes by an alias, and uses video games as a main subject matter. He's done everything from music, to animations, to digital paintings, to even making video games from scratch. This side doesn't have a real purpose, and is one that I've mostly grown up with. To make any of this into a financial gain would mean traveling, which is a step I don't feel ready for yet.
So there's my best description of the two main styles I've been fighting with. Deviantart is the one place online where the two coexist side by side, one look at my gallery will tell you that. Elsewhere I try to focus on one or the other, to make it more unified. My first style will be on Etsy
soon, and my second one is on display at Youtube
, and Yoyogames
. I think eventually one will prevail, it's too difficult to produce both at once. But only time will tell which one that will be. Thanks for reading, and if you're experiencing or have experienced a similar situation, please feel free to share
Until next time!
